Students attend six academic periods each day, including math, science, social studies, and a two period block of language arts, as well as a 30 minute “Drop Everything and Read” (DEAR) independent reading period. Special emphasis is placed on reading and writing across the curriculum in order to help our English learners gain the skills they need to be successful in preparatory high school. The curriculum is rigorous, designed to bring students up to or above grade level in all subjects by the time they complete eighth grade.
Students are assigned two hours of homework each evening, which helps them gain good study habits critical to success in high school while also accelerating the pace at which learning takes place in the classroom.
